It's hard to believe that this was already our 3rd Halloween here in Raleigh and I love how we have created a yearly tradition with dear friends of ours in our neighborhood. I feel like we always have decent weather for Trick-or-Treating but this year seemed exceptionally nice. There was a slight fall feel in the air but nothing uncomfortable and still just right for a great cup of hot chocolate that my friend Sara made for us :-)
I love watching the kids get excited as we approach each house and as soon as they finish one are ready to get to the next. I love seeing their reactions when they see some of their favorite characters walking next to them or passing them on the sidewalk. And I love seeing how happy they get when they get that pouch of candy corn or a bag of M&Ms and yell to each other asking what the other recieved.
As much as I enjoy watching how the light up when they get candy from our neighbors, I have learned each year that they seem to enjoy handing out candy with us even more. It has become my favorite part of Halloween night. After we get home, we grab a couple chairs and the candy and will head out to the driveway some (the dogs appreciate it as they would go crazy hearing the doorbell ring or people knocking!). The kids usually take it from there, and give the candy out to other trick-or-treaters. My son will be sitting there yelling out to the people, "Hey! Come here, we have candy for you!!" It is truly one of the cutest things. They both just love seeing the other kids and as my daughter notes it, they just love giving candy to others so they can have a good Halloween too. Even today they still talk about it as they amp up for next year. Having them sit out there with us is pretty simple and such a great memory for us all. Family time is so important and as time continues to pass I learn more and more that it isn't how you spend the time, but that you do it together!
I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Halloween! More to be coming to the blog and the business soon- its been a heck of a ride and I wouldn't change it!
